● Can you tell us a little about your home and how long you’ve lived here?
We have lived in our apartment in Stirling for 2 years.
● Before the upgrades, what challenges were you facing with your home’s comfort or energy efficiency?
The apartment had some upgrading in that new double glazing had been fitted some 3 years ago, however, the loft insulation and electric heating system were in need of upgrading and in two of the bedrooms we noticed that the wall insulation under the windows was insufficient, which resulted in a cold feeling from the wall and also generally in the room making it difficult and expensive to heat.
Decision & Process
● How has upgrading your insulation helped?
We decided to upgrade the heating and insulation, which has resulted in much improved warmth in the apartment and a significant reduction in heating bills.
● How did you hear about us, and why did you choose to go with us?
We researched local companies capable of both supplying and fitting thermal improvement products to a high standard, not just for our apartment but also for our neighbours who had the same problem.
UIC were selected as they came up with the best solution, in that they suggested a trial design with their joiners stripping out our existing outside panel and replacing them with a new framework, filling the whole area with insulation, sealing the area with a membrane and then complete replacement of the external panelling with a new imperishable cement board that requires no maintenance, this would stop any damp or cold penetration into the building in the future giving good insulation in both rooms.
The design was very successful and resulted in all the other apartments being fitted with the same solution.
Impact & Benefits
● Have you noticed any changes in the warmth or comfort of your home since the work was done?
Since the heating and loft insulation were all upgraded, our EPC rating has been re-estimated up to a “B” rating, giving high thermal insulation and a more efficient heating system, which has reduced our monthly bills substantially, and the bedroom heating is hardly ever on because of the excellent insulation with no cold penetrating from the outside at all.

The benefits of this type of upgrade are improvements to the thermal efficiency of your building, which is most important in lowering your heating bills, but having it done by a competent supplier is also important, and we would recommend UIC to complete your works.
